It's hard to believe it's happening again...but then it really isn't hard to believe it's happening again.
Still I have faith.....I think. Re: Always Something There to Remind Me

After the last few days, the Sign Man, were he here, would provide a sad and bitter echo of his 1969 championship moment:

What a stupid, off-topic comment.

The post was meant only to parady what Greg is saying about the Mets past and present with what Joe Biden is saying about republicans past and present.
Sorry you didn't see it that light and though I understand why it was said, I still didn't appreciate the personal attack. Re: Always Something There to Remind Me

I don't think we're blowing it. We're just not all that good. You can't win with guys like Brandon Knight and Jon Niese and Zombie Pedro taking turns in the rotation, and no closer, and no Moises, and Luis Castillo embezzling $6 million a year. Look at the Phillies last night; they are hitting on every cylinder, scoring runs at will. They are really good. They have the third-best run-differential in baseball. Give 'em some credit.

yeah - and 7 days ago the Phils were falling apart and everyone on the Mets was hitting and Ayala was shutting 'em down and ......
ebb and flow of the season man....its all how you do over the 162. Can we still turn it around - sure -- Will we -- who knows. Re: Re: Re: Always Something There to Remind Me

I wasn't the one saying 7 days ago was the norm. You're kind of making my point. Run-differential is a pretty good indication of overall quality of play over the long term. We're -25 to the Phils in that department, which is about right in terms of relative strengths of the two teams. They are about 2.5 to 3 games better, which is probably where it will shake out.

I tell ya, I hate Willie Harris with every fiber of my being. I don't think he's opened his eyes yet after his larceny of Wright's liner.
BUT... What really fucked up that inning was Reyes getting hit by that pitch. 'Cause then you'd have had Schneider on 3rd with 1 out & he scores on Church's flyball and it's a tie game. Fuckit. What-if's are for losers... Re: Always Something There to Remind Me

And another thing...!
I guess Freddy Wilpon's dream is coming true: we really are the spiritual heirs to those just-beat-at-the-end Dodger teams. "The tree that grows in Re: Always Something There to Remind Me

This year's "17 games to go" is last years "17 games to go". Actually, wait... this year we're 1-4 so far. Last year we were 0-5. OKAY NOW, THINGS ARE LOOKING UP!

The way I figure it, the Phillies are going to go 8-3 the rest of the way. This means we have to go 9-3 to tie and maybe get the division on a tie breaker. In other words, no more losses to the Nats, and only 1 each for the Braves, Marlins, and Cubs.
God, that's a lot to ask... aw crap. Re: Always Something There to Remind Me
