Might we be so bold as to hope for a pitching feat never accomplished by someone wearing a Mets uniform before?
Nah - there's no way that will ever happen.... Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year

3 things left:
1. - that which you mentioned 2. - a triple play 3. - a World Championship Then my year will be complete. Re: Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
Things I will now be heartbroken/furious/institutionalized if we don't get:
* Postseason baseball Things I would dearly love to see: * A World Series title * Edgardo Alfonzo finds his way onto the postseason roster in the Mazzilli role Thing that wouldn't be as good as that, but would still make me very happy: * Edgardo Alfonzo finds his way onto the regular-season roster, gets a standing O and a big hit Things that I won't ask for but would be awfully nice: * A great second half and fond farewell for Cliff Floyd * An MVP award * New club records for HRs, RBIs, Rs and SBs * A 20-game winner Things that the mean little part of me would like: * That other team we share this team with not playing postseason ball * Not worrying about the Braves in September Things I hope for every night and now have given up on: * That which has been mentioned Re: Re: Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
Psst...that other team shares the same city, not the same team. Innocent, fast-thinking, faster-fingered typo, but I don't like the sound of it one bit, no sir.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
I blame all typos on my Inner Yankee.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
You spelled "Inner Something/Anything Else" wrong.
Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
Then there's the weird stuff.
A double play taken off the scoreboard by a balk. A single, double at best stretched to a triple because it hit the ballboy's stool. Paul LoDuca go postal on an ump after a blown call, leaving a live ball even David Cone knew about before the Brave runner did. Two straight Mets lining out to the pitcher on the first two pitches of an inning, and the third batter tempting fate (and breaking many rules) by swinging at the third pitch of the inning and being retired on the fourth. A masseuse in the opposing team's dugout. An MCP in our team's broadcast booth. A ground-rule double called at Wrigley by virtue of Beltran losing it in the ivy (this, I'd just read, is the only ground rule left to fielder's discretion; if the outfielder chooses to dig for it, the ball remains live). Jose Lima. He gets a lifetime exemption for the Weird tour. All of this, and I only get a couple of games a week here. But then, I missed seeing Francesca and Russo broadcasting a game, so there's something to be said for occasional fandom. Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year

I was gonna throw in "a new network," but the Royals got their own network a few years ago. Still, seems part and parcel of the terrain.

What about that ball that wound up in the opposing outfielder's shirt?

We're missing the obligatory sprinkler delay, lefty-reliever ripping a double and scoring off Randy Johnson, right fielder falling down to make a catch, and third baseman rendering gloves irrelevant. But hey, there's still time.
Re: Re: Things You Don't See Every Year
That stuff is SO last year.
Well, it is. |
